Some Background...
Dance Theatre
A long association with both theatre and dance companies has provided the opportunity for Derek to create soundscapes as live performance, pre-recorded soundtrack or a mixture of both.
He has worked and toured with a variety of companies over the years including:

Bands and Session Work
In addition to theatre work Derek formed the 3rd Stream Contemporary Music Quartet Rachaka with pianist Martin Hodgson.

Derek employs an assortment of world percussion from ghatam to sansa harp in addition to his main setup of acoustic drum kit based around phantoms and roto toms or the flexible and powerful Roland V-8 electronic drum kit.
He is currently available for studio session work.
Percussion Workshops can be enjoyed by anyone. From young to old, beginner to experienced.
- Learn some simple rhythms.
- Learn how different rhythms interact. How the sound is woven together into an intricate pattern.
- Learn how the different sounds of the instruments combine to produce the 'song'.
- Learn how to 'stick' the drums.
Derek has taught percussion in educational establishments, both primary and secondary, as well as special needs schools.
He has been involved in many community projects either running workshops on his own or in collaboration with other artists.
Derek can supply a wide range of instruments for the workshop, from African kPanLogo drums to the Celtic bodhran.
