Pilates Classes

The Pilates method of Body Conditioning is a system of physical fitness, movement and strengthening exercises originally designed by Joseph Pilates in the early 1900's.

In his early life Pilates suffered from ill health and he subsequently went on to dedicate his life to the study and practice of movement with the emphasis and intention to strengthen and tone particularly the muscle system of the body and to improve posture, flexibility and balance.

Originally called 'The Art of Contrology' or muscle control, the exercises focused on the use of the mind to master muscular activity and coordination to strengthen the condition of the body leading to the creation of a more streamlined physique.

Pilates as a technique has been constantly developed by practitioners and teachers into the various styles and approaches evident today.

The Pilates mat work series is a system that supports a beginner to become more aware of their body and to develop stability and strength in the core abdominal centre so that the limbs can move in a coordinated and controlled manner.

These classes are suitable for anyone who wishes to develop strength, tone, flexibility and body health.
